Barrels obtaining the “WP” evidence mark but no “Oval P” would suggest a potential non-mail buy barrel swapped outside the Winchester mend shop.

Ned Schwing said in his reference reserve about the Design 1890 & 1906 that Winchester began proof marking them in 1908… I don't know if that's accurate, but will believe that it's. The “WP” proof mark was utilized following the barrel and receiver were being mated, Range gear assembled and completed. This is very evident within the firearms created in the late teens via early 30s when the blue flaked (popped) off once the proof was struck within the receiver frame.
